What to Know

The 12th generation F150 is one of America’s top selling trucks for a reason. The boxy, futuristic styling is minimal, but distinct. The interiors are highly refined with ample legroom and all of the amenities and creature comforts that new vehicles have to offer. The 6 speed automatic is a highly intelligent transmission, it gauges throttle position and can downshift the appropriate amount of gears. This generation of F150’s is also the first to utilize Ford’s Ecoboost technology; the twin turbo 3.5L V6 produces more horsepower and torque than the 5.0L, and approaches the output levels of the 6.2L. The only drawback of this generation is its sheer size. Expect limited rear visibility and difficulty navigating narrow city streets– but that is common to many modern full size pickups.

Common Issues

Transmission Shifting Hard – There have been some issues with this generation of trucks with hard 2-1 downshifts. With the age of most of these trucks, the dealer will likely cover this under warranty. If out of warranty, expect to spend roughly $400 to have the transmission reflashed with new shift patterns.
